The Theradome has a three-step safety system. It can only turn on when worn on the head. The laser beams broaden slightly and become less intense an inch away from the laser diode.
They are also running at 7 milliwatts, a safe power level, at a wavelength in the visible spectrum that commonly enters our eyes. The lasers will seem uncomfortably bright if you get too close but will not cause eye damage.
Lasers are broken down into 4 classifications. Class 1, 2, and 3R are considered low-level (or cold lasers) and include devices like laser pointers, CDs, and hair restoration devices. Moderate and high-powered lasers, which are also called “hot lasers," belong to the class 3b or 4 categories.
These can damage the retina and burn the skin. The Theradome has a class 3R laser cleared by the FDA for safety and efficacy.
