Pigmentation is the coloring of your skin. Pigmentation spots are when patches of the skin turn into darker or lighter shades of color. This is due to excessive or lack of presence of melanin, found on the skin surface.
LPT (Laser Phototherapy) targets the mitochondria of all cells on the scalp including the hair follicles and the scalp surface.
Red light does not affect the melanin production of skin cells.
If LPT affected skin cells and their melanin levels then we would be able to change skin color and reverse benign moles, sunspots, or any other hyperpigmentation on the scalp/skin.
To date, no one in the world has ever experienced any change in skin color or complained of increased pigmentation issues due to Laser Phototherapy.
The mechanism of action for stimulating melanin is different just like someone having white or gray hairs. LPT cannot change the color back from white/gray to their natural hair colors.
The operating wavelength for the Theradome is 680nm which is in the visible light spectrum. The Theradome wavelength is near-infrared (700nm is the start of infrared).
Red light is beneficial to skin as it readily absorbs it. There are no documented side effects from red light at this wavelength. Red light in fact is used in many clinics around the world for the treatment of UV damage caused by the Sun. Diseases such as psoriasis and acne benefit from red light as well.
There are many published studies showing that red light does not harm pigmentation, and only benefits these conditions.
Therefore, we feel very confident, from a scientific point of view, that red light will not harm the pigmentation on their forehead or any other places on their scalp. Treating hair loss when you have pigmentation spots using Laser Phototherapy has proven to be safe.
